Bus drivers across Cairns are steering some Christmas cheer towards community members in need this week as Sunbus backs the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.
The bus company has pledged a $2000 donation to the initiative and will encourage further donations to the appeal via flyers across its bus fleet.
Passengers and passers-by may also notice some bus drivers sporting a festive outfit, swapping their Far North attire for something more suited to the North Pole.
Sunbus Cairns General Manager Jacqueline Williams said she hoped the company’s involvement would encourage more people to get behind the great cause.
“Our drivers transport thousands of people every day and this is a great way for them to engage with the travelling public over Christmas while championing an important cause for our local community,” Ms Williams said.
“We encourage locals to think about those who need it most this year and to dig deep.”
Mayor Bob Manning thanked Sunbus for its contribution to the Appeal.
“Each year, the Appeal supports 700 households in the Cairns region through providing Christmas food hampers to people who might otherwise go without,” Cr Manning said.
“By supporting the Appeal, Sunbus is helping to make Christmas a little merrier for a lot of local people.”
