Welcome to the Sunbus website, which I hope will
assist you in planning your trip on one or more of our service
networks in provincial Queensland, Australia.
Sunbus is the operating entity of Transit
Australia Pty Ltd, one of Queensland’s largest urban bus
operators, with over 500 employees.
Sunbus operates over 200 air-conditioned
mini/midi buses throughout Queensland in Cairns, Townsville,
Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba.
Adopting the successful business strategies of
its parent company in the UK, Transit Australia commenced operating
high frequency mini bus services in provincial Queensland in 1995 as
part of the State Government’s public transport reform
process.
The distinctive blue Sunbuses have steadily
increased bus patronage levels and now carry 10 million locals and
tourists annually.
The sheer volume of patronage growth in recent
times has seen the introduction of a number of conventional size
buses into the fleet across Queensland. All of
these new vehicles have low floor designs, which make them easily
accessible for our disabled patrons and extremely popular with the
community generally. In most of our networks, Sunbuses will
pick up anywhere on the designated route network as long as it is
safe to do so. No need to find a “bus stop” as with most conventional bus services.
