What is it like to be a Professional Bus Driver?

Bus drivers are required to safely transport passengers on established bus routes or chartered journeys. Bus drivers are the primary point of contact for all customer interactions, which is varied daily, so an ability to communicate with the public is an essential part of the role. Bus Drivers are required to sit for long periods of time; ergonomic seating is provided to manage your health and comfort. Bus drivers are required to manage ticketing, including providing correct change to customers paying cash fares. If you are an independent self starter, who likes working with people, with a view that changes every second, this could be the career for you!

What requirements do I need to meet in order to apply for a position as a Professional Bus Driver?

In order to process your application, you must hold, and provide evidence of the following:

  • A relevant driver’s licence (MR or HR)
  • Provide a satisfactory traffic record history
  • Provide a satisfactory criminal history check
  • Hold relevant work rights in Australia
  • Hold a current Driver Authority
  • Be able to pass all pre-employment/post-employment medical clearances, including random drug & alcohol testing
  • Have a strong focus on safety and customer service
  • Be able to perform cash transactions

I am in the process of applying for a Driver Authority. Can I lodge my application now?

  • Yes, an Expression of Interest, including the relevant reference numbers can be submitted, however you will be required to provide evidence of your clearance before your official application will be assessed.

What is the application process?

  • We have a thorough recruitment and selection process, to ensure we have the right people for the right jobs. To ensure this, all applicants will complete a series of pre-employment checks, as part of our Recruitment & Selection Procedure:
  • Phone interview
  • Formal interview
  • Reference checking
  • Pre-employment medical screening
  • Traffic and criminal history checks
  • Practical, psychometric and written assessments

What training is available upon commencement?

  • All new employees are required to undergo an induction process that incorporates a series of written and practical assessments. A training gap analysis will determine any further training and education required, which is supported by our learning and development team, who will support your on boarding and development.
  • Ongoing refresher and de-esculation training is available to all operational personnel

Will I be required to complete pre-employment/post-employment medical and drug & alcohol testing?

  • To support the health, safety and well being of all employees and customers, our staff are required to complete pre-employment/post-employment clearances to adhere to all conditions detailed in our Fitness for Work and OHS policies.

What employment options are available?

  • When a new role becomes available, bus drivers will commence on a casual, part-time or full-time basis, depending on the available route. Positions for full time, permanent routes arise on a regular basis and all employees have the option to apply.

What hours/shifts will I be required to work?

  • We have various routes including school services, peak and charter services, so hours and shifts will vary. You may be required to work a roster, including, evening and split shifts, to accommodate the service requirements. Training options are also available to all drivers during off-peak periods. Details of available shifts will be provided to you, during the interview process.
